Here are the main objectives for this first assignment :)
1. A. To have students visualize the location of
cities, rives, regions, and gulf states of the Arab World
B. To have students incorporate their Arab
Countries worksheet in assisting with their Geography worksheet assignment
C. To focus on one area of the Middle East
and discuss its culture, i.e. Jordan:
- Language: Arabic
- Religions: Mostly Islam
- Food: Mensaf, grape leaves
- Music: Moroccan beats, Omar Abdullat, use may traditional instruments, i.e : oud (guitar), tableh (similar to a drum).
2. The Geography worksheet activity corresponds to these
overall course objectives:
- To familiarize college students with Middle Eastern culture (Lecture, geography, descriptive language, etc.)
- To have students reflect on their findings, ask relevant questions, and apply this course to their real-life (i.e. volunteering and taking future Arabic courses).
3. On Friday March 1, 2013 from 6-7:50 PM
Arabic 100 will meet via Skype . During the session students
will review the photoset map link provided on the course overview session and
form ways to research a country in the Arab World. When you are done reviewing
the photo link please review the Arab Countries Worksheet provided to you.
Next, use the Arab Countries worksheet to answer the Geography worksheet. I will
be available via chat to assist with any questions. When done please email your typed responses to me before the session ends.

This section will be included as part of your discussion
board grade for the week. The other half of the assignment is to complete
section 1C (above). Please pick a Middle Eastern Country and tell your
classmates a bit about your findings. What were you surprised to learn? What
aspects did you think were very different from American Culture?
1C Assignment Due: Sunday,
March 3, 2013 by Midnight. Please respond to three other student’s posts
and monitor your own post.
